Come join us for a relaxing and rejuvenating hour-long basic mediation session, hosted weekly at Jeni's House. The potential benefits of ongoing meditation practice: - Enhanced focus - Reduced anxiety - Improved mental health - Lower blood pressure - Lower heart rate - Improved sleep - Overall relaxation - Increased stress management During this session Bill Kerry will be the instructor, assisting and instructing participants. He will provide basic information and meditation skills to initiate, encourage and enable ongoing meditation practice, no matter your skill level. Bill is a local resident and retired occupational therapist who has been practicing meditation since 1974. He is also an artist who has a lifelong curiosity and interest in traditional and alternative healing practices. His meditation practice became more in focus while addressing his own health concerns, which brought him additional insight into its positive benefits. His extensive background in meditation has equipped him with a unique understanding of the mind and body connection. Instruction: A simple paired down approach to ensure participants can perform basic meditation skills while gathering ongoing, individual practice. Group practices will provide a forum for discussions and sharing experiences with a focus on furthering meditation practice. Sessions Include: - Brief overview, benefits and history of meditation. - Strategies to create an environment that enhances the peacefulness and healing potential of meditation. - Diaphragmatic, deep breathing skills training. Exercises designed to assist the participant to connect with their breath, a vital aspect of the mindfulness practice. - How to cultivate mindfulness and self-awareness which are essential tools for navigating the challenges of life. The practice of individual meditation, coupled with the support of a group setting, will leave you not only with new skills but a sense of community and support as well as increased knowledge of techniques/ methods of relaxation and stress management. *this is service is recommended for wellness support, not a substitute for medical care
